TESTIMONIALS

Crow Mountain Guest Ranch is a jewel in the Northeast Alabama mountains. A wide-open expanse of paddocks, pastures and fields surrounded on all sides by scenic hardwood covered hills, it is a naturally beautiful destination for horse related activities. However, it would be unfair to represent this beautiful place as only a horse destination.

The weekend we spent there with a group of great friends was- uncharacteristically for us- without horses. Given that, there was no shortage of available activities. From four-wheeling and hiking in the mountains to exploring the caves on the property (don’t miss the “salt peter cave” where you’ll see signatures scratched into the cave wall that date back to the Civil War) there was more to do than time allowed. The accommodations were great. We all stayed in one of the newly re-modeled bunkhouses- two bathrooms, comfy beds in small bedrooms, and a kitchen/dining room.

For me, an avid angler, the big attraction was the artesian spring-fed creek. Chilly, clear water flows through shallows and pools under a high canopy of overhanging branches of large cottonwood trees. I took an ultra-light spinning rod/reel and only one lure, a tiny crawfish-colored “Rooster Tail” spinner bait.  From the access point, I waded the creek about ½ mile upstream and ½ mile down. Every cast, every single cast, was an adventure.  In the short time I had to fish (maybe 2 hours) I caught, in the neighborhood of 100 fish. Now, I’m a catch and release guy, so it didn’t matter to me that not every fish I caught was a “keeper” (in fact, you’d be hard pressed to call any of them a keeper). The size of the fishes I caught was far eclipsed by the sheer variety. More than five varieties of bluegill, sunfish, large mouth bass, creek chubs, yellow perch and more all vibrantly colored from the cool, clear water. I’m told that there are deeper sections of the creek (which would certainly yield larger fish) only slightly further downstream from my short walk. It’s quiet, it’s beautiful, it’s secluded and it’s chock-full of fish that are a blast to catch on an ultra-light rig.

Thanks to Hub and Kat for showing our group a great time at Crow Mountain Guest Ranch!

For my first time on a dude ranch, Crow Mountain Guest Ranch was perfect!  It is in one of the most beautiful areas in Alabama I have ever seen.  The friendly and hospitable staff are awesome and so knowledgeable about the horses as well as the area.  I had never been horseback riding, but they got me up on a horse in no time!  I can’t wait to go back to Crow Mountain Guest Ranch and do some more trail riding!

Just wanted to say that Crow Mountain Guest Ranch was a great location to have a horsemanship clinic.  The scenery is beautiful.  The mountains are a great place to trail ride.  It’s the perfect setting to bring your family for a getaway to horse back ride and relax.  The guest quarters look like something from the old west.

Thanks for a great time!

My visit to Crow Mountain Ranch was an unforgettable one. The weather was great and I was glad to finally get away from a busy work schedule to spend some time on a dude ranch.  Each morning was started off with a trail ride. The guided horseback riding was up to the top of Crow Mountain which has many great mountain trails that leads to incredible views. After a great day of riding I was able to spend time on the large property to relax and enjoy the Ranch and all that it has to offer.  I enjoyed the Southern Hospitality and hope to visit again soon.

I recently visited the Crow Mountain Guest Ranch and will have to say that it caught me by complete surprise.  You would not think that a guest ranch like this would be located in north Alabama since most dude ranches are known for being in the western part of the U.S.   They had trail riding that allowed me to take a horse up a mountain where I saw caves and a beautiful waterfall.  The artesian springs allowed me to drink straight from the creek.  There is much more to this ranch than just horseback riding; the view of the Appalachian Mountains is absolutely breathtaking.  I am looking forward to coming back for the quarter horse racing in the summer and possibly invest in the shared ranch concept.

We (Me and my family) went up to Crow Mountain Guest Ranch to take a mini vacation.  As soon as we got there, we were overwhelmed with the beauty of the mountains and the fields.  In their front yard they have a moving fresh water pond and five adorable llamas.  The first day we enjoyed horse back riding on a very gentle horse who was very obedient.  The next day we were able to explore the Ranch’s fascinating landmarks, which consisted of an old tribal cemetery and a historic house that was built in the late 1800′s.  We later, after visiting the different animals, went on a four-wheeler along the side of the mountain.  The scenery was breath taking!  We rode along one side  of many freshwater creeks that they have and saw large rock formations.  The entire time we were able to relax and forget about our activities at home.  It was a wonderful vacation getaway for me and my family and I am definitely looking forward to visiting again.

Crow Mountain Guest Ranch was an awesome place to go in order to take a break from the city, and to get closer to nature. The view of the mountains is spectacular, and the interwoven trails up and down them are great for horseback riding and four-wheeling. All the many animals on the ranch give it a down to earth feel and they are very social and fun to interact with.

There are trails going up the mountain that lead to the two outputs of fresh underground water that naturally flows there. Surrounding the water spots at the top of the mountain are huge rock formations that are amazing to see and hike around. Once on top of these random stone formations the view is spectacular, showing the valley below and the adjacent mountains. All in all Crow Mountain Guest Ranch was a peaceful place to be and I enjoyed my first dude ranch experience immensely.

I was there for the Spring Ride and am coming again in April. It was wonderful and Jana, Hub, Kat and Terry were very gracious. Thank you! My only suggestion would be fire pits outside the lodging area.   Tracy P, Florence, AL
